School up the road, who kept students safe during the storm. > reporter: on county road 68, these are teachers and counselors from the middle ![]() have you ever seen anything like this? > never. ![]() > reporter: as soon as the sun came up in autauga county, alabama, neighbors came out to help neighbors. > unfortunately, it's been a tragic night and morning in our state. the governors of both georgia and alabama have declared a state of emergency tonight, as many families are just now beginning to put their lives back together. > oh! > reporter: at least nine people died in the storm in two states, including a 5-year-old boy who was killed when his family's car was hit by a falling tree. > go, go, go! > reporter: this is what surviving the tornado looked like in decatur, alabama, where workers at a recycling facility took cover, and then a giant piece of metal came crashing down on an opening that they couldn't close. they think they tornado that hit rural autauga county minutes later was even stronger. Through selma, alabama, where an initial damage survey tonight shows it was an ef-2, with wind speeds of at least 111 miles an hour. ![]()
